PUBLISHER ANNOUNCES PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION 2004

San Francisco -- January 2004 -- In honor of its five-year anniversary, TCB-Cafe Publishing has announced a new photography competition aimed at bringing to the limelight aspiring and professional photographers. Entitled, "Photography Competition 2004: New World," this contest is the brainchild of TCB-Cafe Publishing founder & publisher, A.K. Crump. Says Crump, "Even though we're now doing several types of books, our very first was a book of photography, and it was thrilling. I'd like to share the experience of being published with other talented artists."

The book, which plans to contain up to 40 winning photographs as well as others contributed by well-known photographers, is designed to take the theme of the first book, "Green Eyes," and allow it to be interpreted by the creativity of photographers internationally. Comments Crump, "Publishers like Graphis have used this process successfully to bring to view thousands of previously undiscovered photographers. We think there is room in our booklist to support the arts in the same way." TCB-Cafe Publishing hopes to also follow the quality lead set by fine-arts photographic pioneers such as Nazraeli Press, Twin Palms Publishers, and 21ST: The Journal of Contemporary Photography, as well as by Berkeley-based Heyday Books. Crump recently wrote an article on this topic for the July 2003 issue of PHOTOVISION magazine.

TCB-Cafe Publishing's books tend to rely heavily or strategically on photographic illustrations, in particular for the covers. The best-selling book, "The Cafes of San Francisco," now in a second edition, has over 300 full-color photographs. Others like the critically-acclaimed new book, "Seduction by Shakespeare," use only one. The cover of "Chocolate French" pairs images of a sunset Eiffel Tower with a mouth-watering chocolate eclair. Regardless of quantity, the search for the perfect photograph is an ongoing TCB-Cafe Publishing obsession. Concludes Crump, "We want to make sure that as we succeed in other book topics we don't forget to support our artistic roots."
