LINES WRITTEN IN DEJECTION

When have I last looked on
The round green eyes and the long wavering bodies
Of the dark leopards of the moon?
All the wild witches, those most noble ladies,
For all their broom-sticks and their tears,
Their angry tears, are gone.
The holy centaurs of the hills are vanished;
I have nothing but the embittered sun;
Banished heroic mother moon and vanished,
And now that I have come to fifty years
I must endure the timid sun.

- William Butler Yeats

ODE TO YOUR EYES

I'll submit here to the sweetest of martyrdoms,
Describe, while doing them justice, the emerald jewels
God allows herself to let shine upon the world,
The most delicate task I will have ever done.
Indeed, for whom hasn't yet been blessed by your glance,
How can I describe that most unique shade of green,
That Mother Nature could not deliver again,
From Brittany's moorlands to winter evergreens.
This green hue no painter could truly recover,
Even if he mixed colors for the rest of his life,
I am fortunate enough to keep forever,
In my memory the possession I'll most prize.
Seeing the last green ray from the sea-sinking sun
Has been said to make one mortal's life fulfilled.
But it cannot compare to the divine chlorophyll
Through which you bring life and happiness to this world.
Your eyes are bright lighthouses of warmth and bliss
For the sailor after a long trip far from home.
Yet lighthouses cast both danger and welcome,
And one must wonder if he should shout land or reefs.
Shame dawns upon me as I concede my failures,
My arsenal of tools has been brought to mayhem,
To bring true on paper your eyes' sparkling features,
So beautiful there just had to be more of them.

Gorgeous Green Eyes

by Craig DeJonge

I saw you that night
Sat down and saw you
Thinking she looks nice
Then I saw your pale green eyes
And I decided, I swore
That someday I'd love one like you
Gazed upon your luscious lips
Feasted upon their beauty
In my mind
You stood
And I saw you
Saw your tall body
Long, slender legs
The curve of your breast
In that green flowered dress
Your hair was a flower,
Your lips a rose
Your laugh was as beautiful as a sea
Of your green eyes
Your eyes I cannot forget
Hypnotized by you
Did you notice, I wonder?
If you did I didn't know
I wanted you to see me, to know me
I'd smile hoping yours in return
But you didn't look, not at first
Did you not see me?
I could not take my eyes off of
Your eyes
I'm not sure, but
I think I loved you from the first
Lived a lifetime with your green gorgeous eyes
Without ever knowing you
I saw you later that night
Your happy bouncing body
Enjoying the night and all it was
I asked around
About you
Lauren
Lauren, they said
Beautiful green eyed young Lauren
I am not a timid person
But with you I was afraid
Of rejection
Of your pride
Of your love in return?
I didn't know
Then we danced
Not a romantic dance
But a romantic song
Just a dance
Still, I could feel the warmth
In your hands and your breath
As I danced you on the floor
I could see your happiness
As I looked into your wondrous eyes
And for a moment
Just a moment
I felt love
Yes, your eyes
I'm sorry forgive me
But you have the most gorgeous eyes
Thank you, you said blushing
I held you a little bit closer
My leg brushed against yours
Your chest upon mine
The sweet scent of your hair filled my
Lips with desire which could not be fulfilled
Not tonight, not this night
I wondered if you felt the same
I hope
Someday
We will dance again
And you would feel the same as I
Someone said I should get your number
O she's the sweetest most polite girl
She'd be wonderful for you
You'd adore her forever and look into her eyes
I'd love you forever and your gorgeous green eyes
Someday, I thought
I'll love a girl like that
